Biography
Dr. Scott is a Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Director for the bariatric surgical program of Prisma Health. He also serves as the Chief for the Division of Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery for the Prisma Health Department of Surgery, the Assistant Program Director for Prisma Health Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship program, and the medical director for Prisma Health Weight Management Institute (WMI). Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Baylor University and a Master of Science in molecular cell sciences from the University of Memphis. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and then completed his residency in General Surgery at Greenville Health System. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Cincinnati. The scope of his research has centered on new technology, comorbidity reduction, and access to bariatric care. In addition to his duties with Prisma Health, he is a member of the Executive Council of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and is currently the chair the organization’s Program Committee. He participates in a number of other regional and national committees for bariatric surgery issues. He is a member of the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates, the body’s legislative arm. He has previously served as the President of the Bariatric Society of the Carolinas, Chairman of the ASMBS Access to Care Committee, and as a member of the South Carolina Medical Association Childhood Obesity Taskforce. He is currently on the board of directors for the ObesityPAC. Dr. Scott is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery, a Diplomate for the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), and active in the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Southeastern Surgical Congress, and ASMBS. He is a Fellow of the ACS and the ASMBS.
