Descripton:

The Assessment Based Certificate (ABC) Course is designed for advanced practice providers including nurse practitioners, physician assistants and clinical nurse specialists who have been involved in the care of patients with severe obesity. The ABC course curriculum includes all educational components and will culminate with an exam, testing on the knowledge of the attendee. A minimum of two years of experience in this specialty is required to take the certificate exam which will be offered the next day.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe severe obesity and the epidemiology of metabolic and bariatric surgery.
  2. Review evaluation and indications of potential candidates for surgery.
  3. Discuss preop/periop/postop management of metabolic and bariatric surgery patients.
  4. Identify signs and symptoms of complications following metabolic and bariatric surgery, including diagnostic testing and management.
  5. Discuss treatment options for weight recurrence including pharmacological intervention and revisional surgery.
