Biography
Emma J. Patterson, MD, FRCSC, FACS Dr. Emma Patterson is board certified in General Surgery in both Canada and the USA and has focused her practice on bariatric surgery since completing her Laparoscopic Fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 2000. She is internationally recognized as a leader in bariatric surgery for her outstanding surgical skills, teaching abilities, and clinical research track record. Dr. Patterson was a key surgeon contributor in the NIH-funded LABS consortium. Dr. Patterson has published 20 book chapters and more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, including articles in prestigious journals such and the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). She has an entrepreneurial spirit and opened her own practice in 2006, Oregon Weight Loss Surgery LLC. She is also a founding partner and Bariatric Surgery Medical Director at Wilshire Surgery Center LLC, which is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, designated by the American College of Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Patterson is a peer reviewer for many surgical journals and has served on many committees for surgical societies, including service on the Executive Council of the ASMBS from 2010 to 2013.
