Biography

Dr. Peter Nau, MD is a General Surgery Specialist in Iowa City, IA and has over 16 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in 2006. Dr. Nau is affiliated with and currently holds these positions at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics: Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery – Gastrointestinal, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery; Surgical Director, Digestive Health Center; and Program Director, Bariatric Fellowship. Dr. Nau has interests in obesity surgery outcomes and its influence on body composition and the resolution of associated medical comorbidities. He is involved in research investigating the use of automated intelligence, machine learning and video-based assessment to improve outcomes and the way that we teach and evaluate bariatric surgeons. Dr. Nau’s additional interests include sarcopenia and the influence that this often-underdiagnosed condition has on clinical outcomes in a diverse set of patients including those with obesity, those being treated for malignancies, and the critically ill.
