Biography
Dr. Mikami attended college at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and medical school at the University of Kansas. He completed his general surgery training and minimally invasive fellowship at The Ohio State University. Dr. Mikami remained on the faculty at Ohio State from 2004 to 2016. He returned home to be Chief of Surgery and Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs for the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Dr. Mikami has continued his work in minimally invasive surgery of the GI tract, hernia repair, bariatric surgery and advanced endoluminal therapies. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) , and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Mikami is currently on the Board of SAGES, Chair of the ASMBS Emerging Technology & Procedures committee and is Editor and Chief of Bariatric Surgical Practice and Patient Care.
