Biography
Dr. Marc Michalsky is Professor of Clinical Surgery and Pediatrics at The Ohio State University, College of Medicine and Surgical Director for Center for Healthy Weight & Nutrition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to leading the Pediatric Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program at Nationwide, he has collaborated on several national studies, including ongoing work as a principal investigator for the Teen-Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (Teen-LABS) consortium; an NIH sponsored multicenter observational study investigating longitudinal safety and health effects of pediatric metabolic and bariatric surgery. Dr. Michalsky has assisted in the development and dissemination of national consensus-driven best practice guidelines for bariatric surgery in the pediatric population through his ongoing efforts at the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition, he has helped to establish current national accreditation standards through the American College of Surgeons’ – Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Dr. Michalsky remains actively focused on improving disparities in obesity-related healthcare access, including surgical treatment options for children.
