Prakash Gatta MD FACS is a Board Certified & Fellowship trained EsophagealSurgeon that completed hisfellowship training at the prestigious Oregon Clinic under Dr Lee Swanstrom in2007.Hecreated the first Esophageal Surgery Service at the University of Cincinnatiat his first academicappointment. After moving back to the Seattle area in 2010 he created amongst thelargest Robotic Foregut Surgery programs in the US at MultiCare Health System withthe collaboration of local andregional clinical leaders and partners. Dr Gatta has pioneered technology drivendelivery of surgical techniques including starting the first Single Site Surgeryprogram (minimally invasive surgery via one small incision) in Washington State.His research interest encompasses developing new surgical instrumentation,creation of new intellectual property in this space and particularly (more recently)in the field of Artificial Intelligence with Robotic/Digital Surgeryplatforms. Specificareas of interest include predictive analytics, machine learning and surgicalautomation. He is a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) withseveral industry partners (including Intuitive Surgical, Verb Surgical, BD, CSATS,Ethicon and J&J).Dr Gatta servedas the Director of MultiCare’s Esophageal Surgery Programuntilrecently and is the new Director of Foregut Surgery at Overlake Medical Center. Hehelms theonly Foregut Surgery National Mentor Sitein the PNW. He is an activeparticipant in several surgical societies(AFS, SAGES, ACS) where he occupies aleading role in mentoring other surgeons and trainees in bothRobotic, Foregut and Minimally Invasive Surgery.In these societies he hadinfluential positionsin key committee includingAdvocacy,Digital Surgery, AI&Technology.He continues to give back the surgical community byestablishing new training pathways, teaching courses, establishing one of the onlyRobotic MISfellowships in the country. He holds academic appointments at theWashingtonState University,University of Washington and at AT Still University.Dr Gatta was raised in Kuwait and graduated from Medical School with Honors atSeth G.S. MedicalCollege (University of Bombay) that has an excellent academic pedigree with a righthistory of successand is amongst the top 3 schools in India consistently.
