Biography

LTC Joel Brockmeyer, MD, is Chief of Bariatric Surgery, staff general surgeon and Medical Director of the Simulation Center at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia.Specializing in laparoscopic surgical techniques and bariatric procedures, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as well as a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). Dr. Brockmeyer is chair for the ASMBS Military/VA Committee and serves on the Military and Acute Care Surgery committees within SAGES. He is the chair of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Steering Committee and the co-chair of the DHA Robotic Surgery Steering CommitteeDr. Brockmeyer has been published and cited in multiple publications on general surgery and minimally invasive surgical topics. Brockmeyer also has presented on several occasions at national surgical conferences. He has been forward deployed as a general surgeon multiple times in support of the Global War on Terror. Dr. Brockmeyer received his undergraduate education from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and was commissioned through the ROTC there. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at Eisenhower followed by a fellowship in Bariatric and Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery at Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI under Drs. Shanu Kothari, Brandon Grover, and Matthew Baker.LTC Brockmeyer shares two children, Saylor and Renn, with his wife, Paige.
