Biography

Dr. Kamel Brakta is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Program at the Willis Knighton Health System and Assistant Professor at Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, Louisiana. He served both his internship and residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, which is the largest private hospital in the District of Columbia and a teaching hospital for Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an Assistant Professor at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology and Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Brakta has expertise in Minimally-Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. He also is fluent in Robotic-Assisted surgical procedures.

He has received awards as Outstanding Trauma Team Leader and in Excellence in Vascular Surgery and serves as Chairman of Peer Review on the Willis Knighton Peer Review Committee. Dr. Brakta performed humanitarian medical outreach on a volunteer basis to several international countries, including; Kurdistan, Nicaragua and Syria.
