Biography

Carlos Bernuy Matos is a 6th year medical student at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia from Lima, Perú. He was born on 29th March 1999 in Lima. He lives with both parents and he has one sister who lives in France. From the beginning of medical school, Carlos exhibited passion and enthusiasm to learn every aspect of medicine which has allowed him to be in the top fifth of his class. He is passionate about surgical specialties, especially general surgery, who has been able to perform outstandingly in elective rotations in Brazil, Mexico and the US. He is really interested in clinical reasoning and research, and has been able to collaborate in the elaboration of a book in vascular surgery in 2020. Also, he is involved in other activities such as volunteer or mentoring programs, being able to be part of the board of societies such as “Sociedad Estudiantil de Ciencias Clínicas UPCH (SECC)” and “SIRAY – Surgery and public health”.Carlos has a fluent english proficiency and basic french and portuguese skills with the experience of having studied at international language centers in New York, Lyon and Sao Paulo. He was a Peruvian chess player who had the opportunity to represent his country in some international championships, as well to be one of the representatives of his university at the 2021 National College Chess Championship. Moreover, he likes to play soccer constantly and read science fiction books.Finally, he considered himself a responsible, honest and friendly person who is highly motivated on everything he does and works really hard in order to meet his goals. His major objective is to finish residency in General Surgery in the US and to contribute in making the world a brighter place.
