Biography

Professor Aayed R. Alqahtani is Professor and Consultant of MIS and Obesity Surgery, President of the Saudi Arabian Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, President of Gulf Obesity Surgery Society, Director of International Bariatric Club (IBC) Middle East & Africa, CEO of New You Medical Center, and Director of King Saud University Obesity Chair. Prof. Alqahtani is a prominent bariatric surgeon and is the former president of The International Pediatric Endoscopy Group (IPEG); Founder & Former President of its Middle East Chapter, and Former President of the Pan Arab Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (PASMBS).Prof. Alqahtani graduated with honors from King Saud University and underwent postgraduate training at McGill University. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Surgery (FACS) .He was featured on the Dean’s Honors List of Excellent Results in Postdoctoral Training in University of Montreal. Prof. Alqahtani is also the recipient of the ASMBS Foundation 2018 International Award.Prof. Alqahtani is a scientist-surgeon who is a strong advocate of endoscopic bariatric therapy and pediatric bariatric surgery. He has published numerous landmark policy-guiding research studies on weight loss surgery in adult and pediatric and in endobariatrics.Prof. Alqahtani is also the editor-in-chief of the Saudi Journal of Obesity and is a member of the editorial board of several well-known medical journals. He has been the guest speaker in more than 300 international events and over 200 peer-reviewed presentations at national and international meetings. He is faculty of multiple national and international training courses and workshop in MIS, Robotics , Endobariatric and Obesity. He is active in numerous national and international societies.
